The Next Wave

Old Hong Kong
Maasai, Mt Kilamanjaro
After nearly a month of travel, from the bustling streets of Hong Kong to the immaculate beauty of Kenya's Amboseli National Park, I've arrived on Mahé Island in the Seychelles. Tomorrow, I begin my six months work, researching and monitoring coral reefs, at the Cap Ternay Research Centre on Mahé's NW coast. It's a surreal feeling, this stillness inside, knowing that this tiny, beautiful island will be my home.

I aim to update this blog as often as possible when making trips into town or the local internet cafe. I'm sure I'll have some good stories and photos to share as I "get my feet wet" assimilating myself to life on the research base and the island's everyday rhythms. From what I gather, my first two weeks will be more of an academic intensive, making sure I'm competent and up to speed with the coral species I will encounter in the field. Once a work flow is established, I'll be online in a splash.

Though I may be halfway around the world from friends and family, it's possible to bridge the continents and oceans in a number of ways to suite your fancy- and of course, if you send me your details expect postcards!
